Client pays or practice pays? How payment works

On this page
The short answer

You choose for each referral. With Client pays, your client gets an email with your recommendation, the price and a secure link, and pays by card at checkout. With Practice pays, your saved card is charged when you send the referral and the receipt is in your account. Your practitioner account is free either way, with no subscription.

When each makes sense

Client pays suits most referrals, where your client funds their own testing. They see your recommendation first, so they know why you’ve suggested each test before they pay.

Practice pays suits testing you’ve built into a program or package, a client you want to start without a payment step, or your own Baseline. You pay in the same step as sending, with a single “Refer & Pay” button.

Set a default, change it any time

  1. Choose your default in SettingsEvery account starts on Client pays. Pick Practice pays if most of your referrals are practice-funded. You’ll need a saved card.
  2. Switch on any referralEach referral starts with your default, and you can change the payer at review without changing your setting.
  3. Keep your card currentIf your saved card fails or expires, you’ll be asked to update it before a practice-paid referral can be sent. Client-paid referrals aren’t affected.

Paying for the Medicare Baseline

For eligible Medicare card holders, the Baseline Health Check has a $99 Vively service fee. It covers arranging the GP consult, the pathology referral, reminders and your client’s results in the app. It isn’t the price of the pathology or the GP consult.

If your client turns out not to have Medicare, the referral can switch to the $299 private Baseline. The $99 already paid is credited, and your client pays the $200 balance with their own card, even if your practice paid the first $99.

New to Vively? Your account includes a complimentary $99 Medicare Baseline credit for your first practice-paid referral, valid for 30 days after you join.

What to tell your client

“You’ll get an email from Vively with the tests I’ve recommended and the price. You pay by card when you open it, and the results come straight to me.”
